To get into a rated R movie...?

Do you have to be over 17, or do you have to go with somebody 17 or over? Or, does somebody 17+ have to just drop you off, show their id's? I really want to see Bruno,and I'm 14. Sooo, yeahh. I've seen rated R movies before just not in theatres.
