Why did Rousseau argue against the Enlightenment?

Since being enlightened, or acting with reason, seems like a good thing to most of us, why did Rousseau see it as bad? I sort of agree with him because look at what we have become? This is what Rousseau feared. A life governed by luxury and currency and society's influence completely squashing the individuals.
